What to Expect from Your Training Programme

Part 1 Training

We provide all the necessary learning materials, including complimentary online resources and study aids, plus access to our innovative Amplify Driving School app. This gives you hours of training content and DVSA resources on the go!

You’ll receive 10 hours of expert training designed to enhance your driving skills and techniques. This includes preparation for the ‘Show me, Tell me’ questions, testing your knowledge of basic car maintenance to help you prepare for the exam.

You’ll complete up to 42 hours of training with an ORDIT (Official Register of Driving Instructor Training) Trained Driving Instructor. This stage focuses on developing your instructional skills, teaching you how to coach pupils to drive safely through a blend of online and in-car sessions. The areas covered include:

To support this stage of your training, we offer a complimentary downloadable Driving Instructor Lesson Plans & Diagrams eBook, which will aid you throughout your career.

Many trainees choose this valuable route to success! Once you’ve completed Part 3 training, you’ll be issued a trainee licence by the DVSA, which we sponsor for 6 months. This allows you to start delivering lessons as a Potential Driving Instructor (PDI) with Amplify Driving School, earning money while gaining the practical experience necessary to pass your Part 3 Exam. Upon successful completion, you’ll be added to the DVSA’s register as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).

Frequently Asked Questions

I work full-time, can I still train to be a Driving Instructor?

Yes, you can absolutely train to become a Driving Instructor while working full-time. Our training consists of three parts. You can complete Part 1 at home with support from our dedicated Training Support team. Our intensive training course requires just 9 days in total:

  • 10 hours of Part 2 training (completed over 2 consecutive days)
  • Part 3 training (completed over 7 days)

If you need more flexibility, our flexible training course allows you to schedule your in-car sessions at times that suit you.

What is required of me to begin training?

To start your training and become eligible to become a Driving Instructor, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a full UK driving licence for 3+ years.
  • Have 5 or fewer points on your driving licence.
  • Be able to read a number plate from 90 feet away (you may wear glasses/contact lenses).
  • Pass a DBS check with the UK government.
  • To qualify legally as a Driving Instructor, you must be able to register as a PDI and obtain a Personal Reference Number (PRN).

Do I need to provide my own vehicle for training?

No, you do not need to supply your own vehicle for the training. Your in-car sessions will be conducted in one of our market-leading Volkswagen tuition vehicles. For your Part 2/3 exams, you can either use your own car, rent one from us, or use one of our tuition vehicles if you’re on our PDI Trainee Licence.

Are there any hidden costs for my training?

There are no hidden costs involved in your Driving Instructor Training. All payments made are for your training. However, you will need to pay the DVSA directly for your PDI and ADI licences, regardless of your training provider.
